Peter Babalola Exit: “We’ve not lost anything, rather we’ve gained something” -Fmr PDP Chairman, Akindele

The immediate past Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Dr Akindele Adekunle has stated that the recent exit of Mr Peter Babalola from the party in the state is rather a good omen for the party rather than a loss.

In a statement personally signed by the party chieftain, Dr Akindele described the constant anti-party activities of Mr Babalola during his time in office as obvious but he decided to tolerate it in order to achieve the desired goals. He also referred to him as a political lightweight who has no genuine political followership that can disrupt the party chances at the poll.

“Based on his antecedent, while I was the party Chairman, i have known for long in the buildup to last general election and gubernatorial election that he was not working for the party but I had to tolerate him throughout my stay in the office.

“He pointedly and obviously worked against our candidate then, Dr Lere Oyewumi which was a glaring case of anti-party but I choose to lookaway because he was a political lightweight that has no followers and couldn’t have caused any damage at the poll for our candidates.

“Thank God, he has once again demonstrated that and let me congratulate the members of our party, from the ward, local government, federal constituencies, Senatorial districts and the state at large that a political parasite has finally left the party.”

” I wish to add that the party is not diminished by any way, rather, the political virus that would have corrupted other loyal party members have been dealt a devastating blow.”

“Our commitment and ideals to help His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke to realised his mission and vision of totally transforming Osun State is sacrosanct.”

BREAKING: Borno Finance Commissioner Dies in His Room

Ahmed Ali Ahmed, the commissioner for finance in Borno State is dead.

Sources close the the late commissioner said Ahmed died inside his room on Monday, August 26, 2024, morning, Daily Trust reporter

While details of his passing are still sketch, the source said the late commissioner had exceed the time which he normally comes out from his room in the mornings, raising concerns.

It was gathered that the door to the commissioner’s room was forced open by some individuals in his house and his corpse discovered inside it.

The source said, “Oga is no more, he died early this (Monday) morning.”

Confirming the death of the commissioner, his colleague, the Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, in a statement released in Maiduguri said Ahmed would be buried according to Islamic rites.

Osun PDP Chairman Blasts APC Over Attack On NSE Visit

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lambasted the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its scathing attack on the recent visit of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to inspect infrastructure projects in the state.

The PDP in a statement by the Chairman, Hon Sunday Bisi, described APC as a nest of shylocks and fictional irrendists, desperately seeking return of relevance which was irredeemably lost on the volition of their arrogance in failure, wickedness and looting.

“We are not surprised by the APC’s desperation to discredit the NSE’s commendation of our Governor’s projects,” said Hon. Sunday Bisi. Their attack on the NSE is a clear indication that they are afraid of the progress we are making in Osun State”

Bisi described the APC’s statement as “a laughable attempt to undermine the credibility of a reputable professional body like the NSE, the same organisation that has been to other states doing semblance of what Osun state government is doing in massive infrastructure deliverables

“APC should be reminded that the NSE is not a political organization, and their commendation of our projects is further proof of the quality of work we are doing, he said. Unlike the APC, who are used to shoddy jobs and miscreants like Asiri Eniba assessing their projects and issuing them weed-induced passmarks. we are confident in the quality of our work and are not afraid to showcase it to technical teams like the NSE”

Bisi also accused the APC of being sore losers, saying, “They are merely preparing for more tears because our Governor will not stop at anything to change the ruinous story they left behind into a state that is prosperous for all and sundry”

“His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke will not be distracted by their antics, he added. “We will continue to deliver quality projects that will benefit the people of Osun State, and we will not be afraid to showcase them to anyone even if Taju Lawal or Mr Oyetola accidentally becomes the leader of such technical team as NSE.

The PDP Chairman concluded by saying, “The APC should focus on rebuilding their entangled party rather than trying to stick their nose into a realm that is beyond them, their history and especially their thievery regime. We are the ones with the mandate of the people, and we will not be swayed by their desperation.”

JUST-IN: Appeal Court Vacates Orders Barring Secondus, Omehia, Opara From PDP’s Meetings

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has set aside the orders of Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, which barred three prominent chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from attending any further meetings of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

The affected PDP leaders are former National Chairman, Uche Secondus, former Rivers Governor, Celestine Omehia, and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara.

In three separate unanimous judgments delivered on Friday, a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal upheld the appeals filed by Secondus, Omehia, and Opara, ruling that the Federal High Court lacked jurisdiction over the matter.

The appellate court determined that issues relating to the attendance of political party meetings or participation in internal party activities are matters strictly within the domain of the party itself and not justiciable by the court.

The court further held that the Federal High Court should not have entertained the cases, emphasizing that matters involving the internal affairs of a political party are not subject to judicial intervention.

The Appeal Court also declared the proceedings conducted in the Federal High Court as null and void, including the restraining orders made ex-parte by Justice Ekwo on April 5.

I’ll Drop My Presidential Ambition if Jonathan Decides to Run in 2027 – PDP Governor Declares

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has revealed that he will drop his presidential ambition if former President Goodluck Jonathan decides to run for the top seat in 2027.

Mohammed, a governor under the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), made this statement on Thursday at the Government House in Bauchi when a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) urged him to consider running for the presidency.

Mohammed used the occasion to express his admiration for Jonathan’s leadership qualities and experience, saying he would be a better candidate for the job.

He said, “With regard to your call for me to present myself, I am still contemplating my chances as the leader of the opposition.

“I know there are good leaders within the PDP, especially my boss, Goodluck Jonathan.

“I have always said that as long as Jonathan is around, I will not present myself for leadership of this country, unless he decides not to run.

“If we can persuade him to come forward, I will support him with my blood. Out of modesty, he is still not ready. I hope you will meet him and encourage him to run.

The governor praised Jonathan’s past achievements, including his inclusive leadership style, initiatives for unemployed youths, and efforts to address the Almajiri system. “He will do a better job because he has the experience,” Mohammed said.

Mohammed also clarified that his criticisms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration are intended to help put the country on the right path, adding that his responsibility as a leader is to speak out.

Politics is a game of competition and negotiation between and among contending forces and interests. As power is the ultimate target, politics is about horse trading with actors pulling high and low strings to achieve ambitions.

Such strings can be in the form of comedic drama as in the deeply sophisticated shows by Ero Arike or mobilization for mob action to compel outcome. As we all recently witnessed in the United States of America, even a President can be forced to drop out of a race. So recent happenings in Osun PDP is not new; what is interesting is how the party overcame the tumultuous upheaval over local government election primaries.

In the beginning of the exercise, crises were spotted in 40 percent of the 30 local governments and area offices. Another 20 percent was a low level agitation and disquiet. 40 percent were largely peaceful and successfully consensus based. The negative 40 percent was so loud that it gave the impression of a party about to be consumed by rabid tsunamis.

Party leaders who have been in this game since the SDP days however regarded it as a storm in a teacup. Rather than panicking, they entered into conflict management mode, engaging conflicting parties and calling for representation of grievances by the aggrieved. Party chairman, Sunday Bisi proved to be a tested war horse by interfacing with disputing parties, leading to fast tracked resolution across the local governments.

The peace moves were based on a win-win template which enables all parties to win one thing or the other even if that is not their original goal. As at last night, over 95 percent of the local governments are at peace. The remaining five percent covering about two local governments are being ironed out.

While the protest lasted, the State Governor’s directive to the party leadership was simply the need to enforce justice, equity and fairness in line with local political considerations. The party leadership stuck to this admonition which was accompanied with a stern deadline for resolution. Mr Governor was therefore unscathed in all the imbroglio as all disputing parties are his men and women from Ero Arike to the mobilizers of mob actors.

Unknown to detractors, Mr Governor with his able Chief of Staff, Hon Kazeem Akinleye was pulling the strings to get all warring hands to the table. Many backend consultations under three days brought down candidacy battles.

A party chief described the last few days as “an era of in-depth management of polarity and success”, exhaling “We successfully engaged our people.

“All aggrieved people agreed that our Governor and the Adeleke dynasty are our winning formulae. So while there was political anger, there is an acceptance of the bigger goal- the sustenance of the Imole project beyond 2026.

“Those aggrieved also knew they will not go empty handed. There are give and take scenarios, a win -win plan and agenda, covering all stakeholders. Our members also know we have one of the most popular Governors in the history of Osun state, Ademola Adeleke. So there are common grounds which help to facilitate peace making”, the party chief noted.

As the political space enjoys the drama from Ero Arike, it is instructive to note that the incident of the last few days underscore the strong strength of the PDP in Osun. The intensity of protest was a function of the electoral potentials of the party.. Stakeholders are not in doubt as to the reality that PDP remains the only winning party for electoral ambitions.

Now that PDP has overcome its candidacy controversies, the searchlight is now on the main opposition party , the All Progressive Congress(APC). Pundits predict an uncontainable battle of entrenched factions. The signs are already emerging.

Certain key lessons and takeaways are noteworthy here. The key one is the need to sustain consultations and consensus building across the processes of the local elections. The next one is to institutionalize a win-win template in the party primary process. As the goal is public service, most agitators need to submit to party supremacy for the overall group interest.

The last point is the unique style of Mr Governor while the crisis lasts. The backend approach which allows the party leadership to handle and manage the eruptions preserves the place of Mr Governor as the father of all irrespective of differences in electoral ambitions. That line deepened the confidence of party members in the state leader of the party, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The Osun State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , Hon Sunday Bisi has called on aggrieved PDP members to bring their complaints over the local government primary election process for resolutions.

Responding to reports from some local governments over the primary process, the party chief called on those with grievances to be assured that all genuine complaints will be looked into, urging members to cultivate the habit of exploring internal mechanisms for the ventilation of their grievances.

The Party chief who linked the hot contest for the party tickets to its huge popularity among the people assured those with questions to put their complaints in writing and submit to the state leadership.

According to Hon Bisi, the party leadership will not support injustice in whatever form, hence the initial release of timetable for the primary process which include appeal even after a winner has emerged at the primary.

“ The PDP is a very popular platform in Osun State, hence many want to fly the flag of the party at the local elections. We are the winning party because our Governor is delivering well to the people. We are not surprised our primary process has drawn so much attention and controversy.

“We are aware of complaints in some local governments. We will surely resolve them amicably. So the door of the state leadership is open. We will get a stronger PDP at the end of it all.

“ Now that we have complained one way or the other, it is time to meet the state leadership for resolution. The PDP remains a strong electoral platform. We are a family and we must adopt a conflict resolution mechanism”, Hon Bisi affirmed.

BREAKING: PDP Suspends Another Ex-Benue Governor, Days After Suspending Ortom

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue has suspended Senator Gabriel Suswam, a former governor of the state, for alleged insubordination.

The move comes a few days after the party suspended the immediate past governor of the state, Samuel Ortom.

In a statement on Thursday, Bemgba Iortyom, Benue PDP spokesperson, said Terngu Tsegba, a former speaker of the Benue House of Assembly; Richard Gbande, a former federal lawmaker; Terseer Tsumba, a former speaker; and Nicholas Ada, a professor; were also suspended.

Also suspended were the LG party chairmen of Apa, Gboko, Gwer-East, Katsina-Ala, Konshisha, Logo, Otukpo and Ukum.

Part of the statement read: “Recall that the party had summoned the affected persons yesterday, 7th August 2024, to appear before the State Working Committee (SWC) to answer to allegations made against them bordering on acts inimical to the good health and interests of the party.

“In the particular case of Senator Suswam, he was also accused of being a spokesperson and errand runner to APC’s governor Hyacinth Alia to the extent that even when the PDP governorship candidate, Engr. Titus Uba, was still in court challenging the outcome of the election, Suswam was going about drumming support for the governor at public functions, with specific reference made to his speech at the burial of the late Akua Aper Aku.

“The affected persons were required to appear before the SWC today at the party’s State Secretariat on No. 1, Ochagwu Lawani Street, New GRA in Makurdi by 10 am, the aim of their summons being to interact with them at a preliminary level and possibly avoid the need to take disciplinary action against them.”

“They have been suspended from the party for one (1) month, and are hereby directed to appear before the disciplinary committee of the party at a date, venue and time to be communicated to them by the committee.”

OSUN APC FINALISES PLAN TO RADICALIZE PROTEST IN OSUN

There are credible reports that top operatives of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun have finalized plans to hijack and radicalize the ongoing protests in the state starting from Monday 5th.

Reports indicated that a former Commissioner under former Governor Gboyega Oyetola held nocturnal meetings with some youth leaders Sunday evening at Osogbo where the elaborate plans to infiltrate the protests was finalized.

According to the reports , the former Commissioner who breached broadcasting code on Fresh FM, Osogbo, today by spewing libelous and seditious allegations against members of the Adeleke family was reported to have listed areas of action for the protesters.

APC activists are billed to join the protest and then defy the protest leaders to launch attacks on government offices and assets.

Government offices slated for attacks include the state Secretariat at Abere, the tax agency offices as well as onward movement to attack warehouses of the state government.

The said Commissioner was noted to have also finalized the various anti-Adeleke placards the APC protesters were to carry to cast aspersions on Governor Ademola Adeleke.

A protest organizer who was mistakenly invited to the meeting by the APC planners said the meeting was held immediately after the Commissioner left a radio programme at Osogbo where he incited the public to a more radical action in the ongoing protest

Meanwhile, reports indicated that the plan has been leaked to security agencies who are said to have put the former Commissioner from Iree on watch list.

It would be recalled that Osun PDP had two days ago alerted security agencies of an insider plot by the opposition to set its Secretariat and campaign offices on fire in a bid to sabotage existing peace in Osun State.

The party in a statement said it uncovered the plot on Thursday night and alerted security operatives who deployed personnel to prevent self-inflicted arson by the disgruntled opposition elements.

According to the ruling party in the state, the opposition operatives were shocked that their evil plots were bursted, hence the fake news being circulated of purported plans to burn down the APC structures.

The statement signed by Hon Sunday Bisi, the state chairman of the PDP, alerted security agencies that despite the foiling of the opposition’s evil plan on Thursday evening, elements within the opposition are still hell-bent on implementing the self-orchestrated attacks and arson to be blamed on the ruling party in the state.

“It is to that end that we urge the Police and the secret service to summon the state APC leaders for interrogation to prevent disruption of peace in Osun State.

“Unless the opposition leaders are promptly interrogated, the state may be exposed to danger from an opposition group that is as violent-minded as to plan to set ablaze its own structures to score political points.

“At this point, the state APC leaders should be aware that security reports on its evil plot have reached Abuja and that her leaders would be held responsible for any breakdown of law and order in Osun State.

“We submit that the opposition is worried that Governor Ademola Adeleke has successfully managed the national protest in Osun State without any untowards incidents. We warn against dark elements within the APC who are seeking blood and destruction to blackmail the state government.

“We must particularly chide the state Chairman of the APC for his cyberstalking and personal attacks on Governor Adeleke, an action that defies morality and constitutes unacceptable infractions.

“We call the attention of the security agencies to the constant cyber stalking and total disrespect for the office of the state Governor by the APC state chairman even as we declare our readiness to take appropriate legal action if the infraction and libelous activities continue”, the party leader posited.

While assuring the people of Osun state of peace and stability despite the antics of the APC, Hon Bisi affirmed that the state government is monitoring the protest situation and is determined to ensure Osun retains its position as a peaceful state despite the ongoing national protest.

Osun APC should stop hallucinating unnecessarily, Ademola Adeleke led administratration has so far lived up to expectations of the people.

Osun State Government has described a press statement made by Osun APC shortly after the Stewardship and Accountability programme aired on the State wide radio stations today as that of a frustrated set of political beings who will always wait for an opportunity to attack a performing government currently in place in Osun.

While describing the statement as baseless and hornless, especially on the allegation that callers during the programme carpeted the present administration as a non performing one, Osun State Government through a counter press statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, viewed the insinuations as coming from a rejected set of political class of people who are no longer in tune with the existing realities on ground in Osun State.

Part of the statement by Oluomo Alimi reads thus .

“We read with dismay the unnecessary and baseless reactions of the Osun APC over a programme by the Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment, tagged Stewardship, (Ise iriju wa) which, on the contrary was commended and applauded by the generality of the listeners this morning

.”Stewardship as the programme has been christened, is an Accountability programme by the Ademola Adeleke led government, which for the two hours that it held this morning, provided the much desired feedback mechanism which the people of Osun State welcomed with open hearts and adulations

Osun state Government wouldn’t have dignified the Osun APC with a response of this magnitude. However, to set the record straight informed this reaction.

For record purpose and particularly for the consumption of members of the public in Osun State, APC needs to be reminded that throughout its four years clueless leadership of the last regime of Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, the current Honourable Minister of Marines and Blue Economy, who was adjudged as one of the poorly rated Ministers under President Bola Tinubu, never for once, had the confidence to showcase to the whole world what it did for the people of Osun as openly done by the administration of Senator Ademola Adeleke on the programme: Stewardship today ,as aired on 15 different radio stations across the state this morning.

By implication, with the openness of the nature of the programme, it means that the administration of Senator Adeleke has nothing to hide from the people and it is performing to the expectations of the people as against the expectations of the naysayers.

Under this maiden edition of Osun Stewardship as organized by the Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment under the leadership of Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, four Commissioners,Dr B T Salami( Special Duties and Regional Integration) Alh.Abdul Ganiyu Ola Oluwa( Rural and Community Development) Bar Jola Akintola (Health), Prince Bayo Ogungbangbe( Cooperatives and Empowerment) as well as the Special Adviser on Public Health( Dr Akindele Adekunle and his counterpart from Agriculture and Food Security, Hon.Niran Atidade with Dr Rasaq Akindele from Osun Health Insurance Agency( OHIS) were all on the programme during which they all took time to give a true assessment,achievements, prospects and challenges of their agencies, much to the delight of the people of Osun State, who, applauded them during the programme.

“On issues where callers had cause to draw the attention of the state government to in order to make amends, it was fully noted during the programme and action to that effect would soon be taken by the present administration.

“However, it needs be emphasized that Government ,will not in any way, be cowed to submission or intimidated by the baseless condemnation of the present administration by the jobless set of people who are always looking for an opportunity to make noise as usual.

Therefore, we make bold to say that, if anything, we will continue to live up to the expectations of the people in doing things that will be to their happiness as a government that has their love at heart.
