The faction of the Labour Party (LP), under the leadership of Julius Abure as its National Chairman, has ruled out an automatic ticket for Peter Obi as the party’s candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The faction also ruled out an automatic ticket for the current Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, on the party’s platform.

The developments were announced during a press briefing on Monday by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC). The NEC has now announced that these nominations will be open to all candidates.

Anti-Party: PDP Panel Gets Report On Wike, Ortom, Makinde

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is taking decisive action against alleged anti-party activities within its ranks, focusing on the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and several former governors.

According to the PDP National Disciplinary Committee, headed by ex-Foreign Affairs Minister, Tom Ikimi, a thorough investigation is underway following reports from the National Working Committee.

Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, along with Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, are at the center of the controversy.

These members, collectively known as the G-5, reportedly opposed the party’s directives and undermined its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the contentious 2023 elections.

The crux of the discord stems from a fallout over the refusal of the former National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to step down in favor of a southern candidate, which splintered the party’s unity.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, confirmed to Sunday Punch that Wike and the other former governors involved are being summoned to appear before the panel to address the allegations.

“People are not getting these things; Nigerians have been saying that there is no opposition and that PDP is not active, but now we have constituted two committees to probe the alleged involvement of members in anti-party and sabotage on the party’s chances.

“One of the committees is to reconcile and the other is to discipline where you find defaulters. None of them has sat; what I said previously was that the committees had commenced work. They are doing a letter to Wike and several others that have been petitioned so that they can come and explain their roles as alleged in the elections, pre and post,” Abdullahi said.

When asked if other former G-5 members would also be probed, Abdullahi said, “Yes, if Wike will be summoned, I do not know why others will be exempted. If Wike who is still holding a federal appointment and is even the leader of the ring will be called upon, then it suffices to say that those ones (other G-5 members) are automatic.”

The PDP chieftain insisted the probe of Wike and the others would not cause division in the party but rather instill discipline among members and prevent future reoccurrence of anti-party activity.

Meanwhile, a senior member of the PDP NWC, who requested anonymity due to lack of authorisation to comment, confirmed that the NWC had submitted the report on anti-party activities of Wike and others to the Ikimi’s committee.

The source, however, said the panel had yet to invite Wike and others for the probe.

“Yes, the NWC has handed over reports on anti-party activities and other relevant information to the disciplinary committee chaired by Ikimi.

“But I don’t think they have invited Wike or anybody. You should ask Ikimi, or anyone who told you to provide evidence that Wike has been invited”, the source added.

BREAKING: Weeks To Governorship Election, Ex-Lawmaker Dumps APC In Edo

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Emmanuel Agbaje, has dumped the party.

Agbaje who represented Akoko-Edo II in the state House of Assembly from 2015 to 2023, in a letter to his Ward 10 chairman in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area dated September 2, 2024, complained of alienation and alleged sidelining in the scheme of things in the party and his ward.

The letter reads, “This decision has not been taken lightly, but after careful consideration and consultation with my support base and leaders, I believe it is the best course of action for me at this time.

“Since democracy provides for choices, I am entitled to review my involvement and seek alignment that recognizes loyalty, dedication, and sacrifices. I can no longer accept the deliberate alienation and the sidelining of core Party faithful and leaders particularly from our ward.

As a founding member of the party, it is a difficult decision considering the relationships built within the party over the years as well as the feelings of good friends who may choose to remain, my assurances are that our friendship and relationships remain protected and insulated. Life outside politics is larger.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your leadership and support during my time in the party. I have valued our working relationship and the shared commitment we have had to the ideals of the APC, I look forward to a continuous robust relationship that benefits our people and communities.”

Agbaje was the only APC lawmaker in the state House of Assembly besides the 14 that were not inaugurated in 2019.

He did not defect with Governor Godwin Obaseki from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2020 governorship election and it was gathered that from that time till his tenure ended, he was denied all entitlements as a lawmaker except his monthly salary.

It was gathered that he was not also consulted when the APC governorship campaign council was being constituted as members who were then in the PDP in his ward were made members of the council without consulting him.

No fewer than three hundred (300) APC members defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ora-Igbomina, Ifedayo local government, yesterday, 1st September, 2024.

It was a carnival-like atmosphere during the PDP general meeting in Ora-Igbomina as members of the opposition APC dropped their broom to embrace umbrella.

Citing many reasons why they are leaving the party, they said the leadership of the party has failed them in the local government, hence they decide to move to the real progressive party, the PDP.

They said the real progressive party is PDP government, stating that what Governor Ademola Adeleke is doing in Osun in terms of his transformation agenda is enough for those who love the state to join him to move the state forward.

Speaking one after the other, Hon. Goke Afolayan, Hon. Goke Olaoye and Hon. Adedoyin said what Governor Ademola Adeleke is doing in Osun is unprecedented compare to what the APC had done in the State.

Hon. Afolayan said with what Governor Adeleke has done in the last eighteen months is enough to join the party. “What the Governor is doing in Osun today, is unprecedented. Just dew days ago, he unveiled the newly purchased tractors for our farmers.”

“For the years APC spent on the saddle, they didn’t think of buy tractors for our farmers. This is a real progressive.”

Hon. Olaoye praised Governor Adeleke for remembering the pensioners in the State as he prayed that God will continue to strengthen the Governor to do more for the state. “We are here to join hands with our governor to move the state forward. What we are seeing all around is enough for us to join the PDP.

“Ora-Igbomina Mini Water Scheme which was abandoned by the APC is being reconstructed by the administration of Governor Adeleke. We say thank your sir.”

Those who lead members of the APC to PDP are, Hon. Olagoke Afolayan (ward 8), Hon. Goke Olaoye (former councilor, ward 07), Hon. Adedoyin, Hon. Demolu Adedoyin, Mrs Ogunniyi, Mr Arin Abikoye and hundreds of APC members.

Dear people of osun and party members

I write to address you on recent developments within our party, the PDP where I serve as the chairman by the grace of God

It has come to our attention at the State Working Committee of the PDP that certain individuals have defected to the opposition party, including an habitual wanderer, suspended by our party for his bitterness induced anti-party activities.

Let me be clear, we have lost nothing. These individuals’ nocturnal moves and hobnobbing with the opposition were well-known to us and I believe those following our party history in the state are equally aware

Their true intentions were to exploit His Excellency, Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke’s position and that of my good office, to impose themselves on other leaders, despite lacking the capacity and trust of the people. They sought an undemocratic free ride, disregarding their abysmal trust gauge with the electorate.

This clarification is necessary due to numerous inquiries from media platforms as well as men and women of goodwill in Osun State. Let me assure you all, we are not worried. These individuals are well-known to the Osun State electorate, and we don’t waste energy on such dead weights. Politics demands courage and resilience, not spoon-feeding insatiable ambitions.

As chairman, my duty is clear: protect the party’s general interest and uphold the law, not pampering the lazy few, who have lost touch with contemporary party management realities. To renege on this would be a betrayal of my oath and the pact the party signed with everyone of you, who supported and voted for us.

I urge you all to remain steadfast, undeterred by detractors’ antics. While numbers matter in party politics as we used to say, we must recognize that some numbers are toxic and dangerous, polluting the positive and loyal ones. Not all numbers are good numbers, especially for a party committed to serving the general wellbeing of the people.

The PDP you all entrusted with your mandate is a party built on rules and discipline, and we cannot afford to revert to the dark days of reckless behavior and blackmail without proven capacity. We’ve tasted the bitter pills of indiscipline in the past and wasted your collective sweat in the process, as championed by the same individuals, including one who openly confessed to backstabbing our administration while serving as Chief of Staff to the then Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola. This character held a position of trust while secretly meeting with opposition leaders, showcasing their treacherous nature. We cannot pay the price of such betrayal any longer; it’s too expensive a joke!

We’re aware of the enormous tasks ahead in rebuilding Osun State, entrusted to us by you, the people of Osun. No individual ambition is worth compromising this investment of trust. We cannot afford to fail, and I assure you all, we will not fail!

I commend His Excellency, Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, for his exemplary leadership in upholding democratic values, ensuring peace and stability within the party. His leadership has made our job easier, and his outstanding performance in office has paved the way for future electoral success in Osun State.

We are resolved not to allow spent forces distract him; instead, we’ll continue to work together to sustain the current tempo of development as we pledged.

Let this serve as a warning and assurance to lovers of our party: our great party will not tolerate any acts of indiscipline. We hold dear in our mind that our government is a product of the collective will and focus of the Osun State people, and condoning sabotage through indiscipline would be a disservice to you, the people, who expect us to work tirelessly and make you proud.

Let me report to you that we have and are still receiving new members into our great party from various opposition parties, but as you are aware, it is not our way to bragging around about that. We are not under pressure like the defeated experts in failure, who are excited at every drop of sound in their graveyard.

I thank you for your continued support and commitment to ensuring sound governance dividends are delivered on your investment of trust in us.

The immediate past Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Dr Akindele Adekunle has stated that the recent exit of Mr Peter Babalola from the party in the state is rather a good omen for the party rather than a loss.

In a statement personally signed by the party chieftain, Dr Akindele described the constant anti-party activities of Mr Babalola during his time in office as obvious but he decided to tolerate it in order to achieve the desired goals. He also referred to him as a political lightweight who has no genuine political followership that can disrupt the party chances at the poll.

“Based on his antecedent, while I was the party Chairman, i have known for long in the buildup to last general election and gubernatorial election that he was not working for the party but I had to tolerate him throughout my stay in the office.

“He pointedly and obviously worked against our candidate then, Dr Lere Oyewumi which was a glaring case of anti-party but I choose to lookaway because he was a political lightweight that has no followers and couldn’t have caused any damage at the poll for our candidates.

“Thank God, he has once again demonstrated that and let me congratulate the members of our party, from the ward, local government, federal constituencies, Senatorial districts and the state at large that a political parasite has finally left the party.”

” I wish to add that the party is not diminished by any way, rather, the political virus that would have corrupted other loyal party members have been dealt a devastating blow.”

“Our commitment and ideals to help His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke to realised his mission and vision of totally transforming Osun State is sacrosanct.”

BREAKING: Borno Finance Commissioner Dies in His Room

Ahmed Ali Ahmed, the commissioner for finance in Borno State is dead.

Sources close the the late commissioner said Ahmed died inside his room on Monday, August 26, 2024, morning, Daily Trust reporter

While details of his passing are still sketch, the source said the late commissioner had exceed the time which he normally comes out from his room in the mornings, raising concerns.

It was gathered that the door to the commissioner’s room was forced open by some individuals in his house and his corpse discovered inside it.

The source said, “Oga is no more, he died early this (Monday) morning.”

Confirming the death of the commissioner, his colleague, the Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, in a statement released in Maiduguri said Ahmed would be buried according to Islamic rites.

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lambasted the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its scathing attack on the recent visit of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to inspect infrastructure projects in the state.

The PDP in a statement by the Chairman, Hon Sunday Bisi, described APC as a nest of shylocks and fictional irrendists, desperately seeking return of relevance which was irredeemably lost on the volition of their arrogance in failure, wickedness and looting.

“We are not surprised by the APC’s desperation to discredit the NSE’s commendation of our Governor’s projects,” said Hon. Sunday Bisi. Their attack on the NSE is a clear indication that they are afraid of the progress we are making in Osun State”

Bisi described the APC’s statement as “a laughable attempt to undermine the credibility of a reputable professional body like the NSE, the same organisation that has been to other states doing semblance of what Osun state government is doing in massive infrastructure deliverables

“APC should be reminded that the NSE is not a political organization, and their commendation of our projects is further proof of the quality of work we are doing, he said. Unlike the APC, who are used to shoddy jobs and miscreants like Asiri Eniba assessing their projects and issuing them weed-induced passmarks. we are confident in the quality of our work and are not afraid to showcase it to technical teams like the NSE”

Bisi also accused the APC of being sore losers, saying, “They are merely preparing for more tears because our Governor will not stop at anything to change the ruinous story they left behind into a state that is prosperous for all and sundry”

“His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke will not be distracted by their antics, he added. “We will continue to deliver quality projects that will benefit the people of Osun State, and we will not be afraid to showcase them to anyone even if Taju Lawal or Mr Oyetola accidentally becomes the leader of such technical team as NSE.

The PDP Chairman concluded by saying, “The APC should focus on rebuilding their entangled party rather than trying to stick their nose into a realm that is beyond them, their history and especially their thievery regime. We are the ones with the mandate of the people, and we will not be swayed by their desperation.”

JUST-IN: Appeal Court Vacates Orders Barring Secondus, Omehia, Opara From PDP’s Meetings

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has set aside the orders of Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, which barred three prominent chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from attending any further meetings of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

The affected PDP leaders are former National Chairman, Uche Secondus, former Rivers Governor, Celestine Omehia, and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara.

In three separate unanimous judgments delivered on Friday, a three-member panel of the Court of Appeal upheld the appeals filed by Secondus, Omehia, and Opara, ruling that the Federal High Court lacked jurisdiction over the matter.

The appellate court determined that issues relating to the attendance of political party meetings or participation in internal party activities are matters strictly within the domain of the party itself and not justiciable by the court.

The court further held that the Federal High Court should not have entertained the cases, emphasizing that matters involving the internal affairs of a political party are not subject to judicial intervention.

The Appeal Court also declared the proceedings conducted in the Federal High Court as null and void, including the restraining orders made ex-parte by Justice Ekwo on April 5.

I’ll Drop My Presidential Ambition if Jonathan Decides to Run in 2027 – PDP Governor Declares

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has revealed that he will drop his presidential ambition if former President Goodluck Jonathan decides to run for the top seat in 2027.

Mohammed, a governor under the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), made this statement on Thursday at the Government House in Bauchi when a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) urged him to consider running for the presidency.

Mohammed used the occasion to express his admiration for Jonathan’s leadership qualities and experience, saying he would be a better candidate for the job.

He said, “With regard to your call for me to present myself, I am still contemplating my chances as the leader of the opposition.

“I know there are good leaders within the PDP, especially my boss, Goodluck Jonathan.

“I have always said that as long as Jonathan is around, I will not present myself for leadership of this country, unless he decides not to run.

“If we can persuade him to come forward, I will support him with my blood. Out of modesty, he is still not ready. I hope you will meet him and encourage him to run.

The governor praised Jonathan’s past achievements, including his inclusive leadership style, initiatives for unemployed youths, and efforts to address the Almajiri system. “He will do a better job because he has the experience,” Mohammed said.

Mohammed also clarified that his criticisms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration are intended to help put the country on the right path, adding that his responsibility as a leader is to speak out.
