The Osun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has counseled the All Progressive Congress (APC) to desist from its ceaseless affront on rule of law by ignoring the effect of a valid and subsisting judgement that sacked YES or NO officials, warning the APC is at risk of crumbling this democracy with the reckless assumption that it is above the law.
The PDP in a statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, expressed disgust at the manner which the Osun APC go about its impunity in an effort to illegally seized local governments in the state, asking the party to tell the public the basis of its recent application before the Court of Appeal in Akure if indeed the court reinstated its members.
Hon. Bisi who said he is aware of the dilemma of the Osun APC in bringing itself to accept the truth that its illegal occupation of councils in the state can no longer go ahead, called on the party leadership to come out open to its members that the law has caught up with its illegal attempt to foist itself on the people.
“At the beginning of the whole drama, we rightly alerted the public to the illegality of the Osun APC because no court reinstated the sacked YES or NO officials as they shamelessly lied. We’re now vindicated as the Osun APC are back to the same Court of Appeal to try and revive an appeal that affirmed the invalidation of the October 15, 2022 local governments election, which the APC is laying claim to,” Hon. Bisi noted.
“Instead of beating around the bush and throwing around conjectures, we believe the question that Osun APC should be answering its agitated members and the public it had misled with lies is, what exactly is it doing at the Court of Appeal if the judgement sacking its YES or NO officials is not subsisting?
“We are disturbed that the Osun APC is in the habit of dropping the name of the Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, to justify its clear assault on the judiciary by discarding a valid and subsisting judgement. Contrary to the lies peddled by the Osun APC, the documents shared with the AGF on the various judgements that nullified the October 15, 2022 elections and compelled OSSIEC to conduct the February 22, 2025 local governments election are public information as they were widely circulated on both traditional and new media platforms.
“We’re deeply concerned at the impression of partisanship that the Osun APC is trying to build around AGF Fagbemi, as we clearly understand that the creation of that office by the Constitution is not for such purpose. It is also a clear attack on the judiciary to try and place the advise of AGF Fagbemi, who we believe was not adequately informed when he made such, above the judgement of a Court of competent jurisdiction which was the basis for the conduct of the February 22, 2025 local governments election in the state.”
Hon. Bisi warned the Osun APC to stop rubbing institutions in the country with mud in its desperation to forcefully take power through the backdoor, noting that the preponderance of facts on ground in the light of the application of the APC at the Court of Appeal points to nothing but a coup against democracy by the opposition.
“It is absurd that a party fighting so hard in court to have an appeal already dismissed relisted and heard, is going about to lie about reinstatement. This is impunity of the highest order and a disturbing signal that the Osun APC is bent on destroying whatever is left of our democracy,” he said.
“It is for this reason that we’re calling on every persons of conscience and lovers of democracy to rise up against this anti-democratic action so that the sacrifices that got us here will not be lost. Not even in motor parks are the kinds of approach deployed by the Osun APC acceptable in this age and it is therefore necessary to stand up against their shenanigans or we lose this democracy entirely.”
