Flag-off Ceremony for Vaccination of Animals Against Anthrax Disease Held Across the Osun State
In a bid to safeguard the health of livestock and promote food security, the Osun state government flagged off a vaccination program against anthrax disease. The ceremony, presided over by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Honorable Tola Faseru, highlighted the importance of protecting animals from this deadly disease and underscored Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to agricultural development and food security in the state.
Anthrax is a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease that affects animals, especially cattle, sheep, and goats. It can also be transmitted to humans through contact with infected animals or their products. The vaccination program aims to prevent the spread of anthrax and protect both livestock and human populations.
During his speech at the ceremony, Commissioner Faseru explained that anthrax is caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis, which forms spores that can survive in the environment for long periods. He emphasized the need for farmers and livestock owners to vaccinate their animals regularly to prevent outbreaks of the disease.
“Anthrax is a serious threat to both animal and human health,” said Commissioner Faseru. “By vaccinating our livestock, we can protect our food supply and ensure the health and well-being of our people.”
He also highlighted Governor Adeleke’s passion for agriculture and food security, noting that the governor has prioritized the sector as a key driver of economic development in the state. “Governor Adeleke is deeply committed to promoting agriculture and ensuring food security in our state,” said Commissioner Faseru. “This vaccination program is a testament to his dedication to the well-being of our people.”
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, OSSADEP and OSSADEC, Honorable Olaniran Akanfe Atidade, reiterated the governor’s commitment to the welfare of the people. He stated that the vaccination program is a proactive measure to protect both livestock and human populations from the threat of anthrax.
“The well-being of our people is paramount to Governor Adeleke,” said Honorable Atidade. “This vaccination program is just one of the many initiatives the government is undertaking to ensure the health and prosperity of our citizens.”
The flag-off ceremony was attended by government officials, livestock owners, and representatives from the veterinary and agricultural sectors. The event marked the beginning of a comprehensive vaccination campaign that will cover all regions of the state, ensuring that livestock are protected from anthrax and that food security is maintained for all residents.
