Interns Recruitment: Uniosun Teaching Hospital Clarifies Recruitment Process, Harps On Transparency, Competence And Fairness

Recruitment Process For Interns At Uniosun Teaching Hospital; The Need To Set The Record Straight
The attention of the Management of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, has been drawn to various reactions and criticisms trailing the ongoing recruitment exercise for available 17 intern positions at the hospital, vis-a-vis the high number of applications received so far which stood at over 400 in total.
In specific, it has been alleged that we allow hundreds of willing applicants to obtain intern employment forms, knowing that only a few will be considered at the end of the day. We understand the concerns and would like to take this opportunity to address this allegation and set the record straight.
We wish to categorically state that the decision to open the recruitment window to all interested applicants was a deliberate one, aimed at ensuring transparency, fairness and adherence to global best practices. The objective is to create an equal opportunity for all qualified candidates to apply and compete based on merit. This approach main focus is to ensure that only the best and most competent individuals will be selected to join our esteemed institution.
It is important to note that this method of open competition is not peculiar to our hospital alone. Similar processes are common in other sectors. For instance, in the recruitment exercises for teachers in most States and police officers nationwide, thousands of applicants often compete for a limited number of slots. In most cases, less than 2% of applicants are eventually employed after a thorough and rigorous selection process. This practice underscores the commitment to meritocracy and excellence, which is exactly what we are upholding at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital.
We understand the concerns of applicants and stakeholders, but we urge everyone to trust the integrity of the process. The recruitment exercise will be conducted with the highest level of professionalism, transparency and fairness. Every applicant will be given a fair chance, and selections will be made strictly based on merit, competence and the specific needs of the hospital.
We appreciate the interest shown by all applicants and the confidence they have in UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital. We remain committed to our core values of excellence, service and professionalism. We assure the public that the best candidates will emerge at the end of this process.
Signed,
Dr. Babatunde Afolabi,
Chief Medical Director,
UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital (UTH), Osogbo.
