Nigerians Blast Senator Ajibola Basiru Over Call For State Of Emergency In Osun
The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has come under heavy fire from Nigerians following his call for a state of emergency in Osun State.
Basiru, while backing President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State, suggested that a similar move might be necessary in Osun.
He accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of failing to uphold law and order, insisting that the reinstated local government councils must be allowed to function.
“It is hoped that the Osun Governor takes a cue from this development and allows the court-reinstated local government councils to operate, as otherwise, a state of emergency may also be apposite,” Bashiru stated.
His comments have sparked outrage, with many Nigerians taking to social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), to condemn his stance. Critics accused him of attempting to destabilise Osun for political reasons.
A user, @ComrOluwaseun, wrote: “Some people just won’t allow Osun State be. The good life in the state is your headache. May God never grant your heart desires.”
Another, @alooma_king, added: “It does hurt when you don’t see sense where you thought you would see it. I don’t blame you because you don’t have any business in the state. To all wishing Osun bad omens, God will continue disgracing you.”
The backlash intensified as @teebabah bluntly declared : “It will not be well with you.”
Similarly, @wahab_b69750 lambasted Bashiru, saying: “That boy called Basiru is a wicked man without consent.”
Many users questioned the senator’s intentions, with @uche_igwe expressing disbelief: “Habba. To Osun again? How will that benefit anyone?”
@HeroOladayo also dismissed Bashiru’s chances of gaining political relevance, warning: “This is very bad of you. Make APC sha no give you any ticket because you can’t win.”
