Osun State Sets New Benchmark for Healthcare Excellence in the Southwest, Clinches $500,000 in Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge

Osun State has earned a prestigious recognition for its strategic investments in healthcare infrastructure, emerging as the Southwest zonal winner in the Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge. This accolade, accompanied by a $500,000 cash prize, underscores the state’s steadfast commitment to improving the health and well-being of its citizens.
Alhaji Adisa Tajudeen Tejuade, Chairman of the Osun State Primary Healthcare Board, attributed the state’s success to the visionary leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke. He praised the governor’s administration for prioritizing the strengthening of primary healthcare systems, expanding access to healthcare services, and enhancing health outcomes. “The governor’s unwavering focus on healthcare development has been the driving force behind our success in this challenge,” he remarked.
Under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s leadership, the impact on the state’s healthcare sector has been transformative. More than 200 healthcare centers across Osun State have been rehabilitated, significantly improving access to quality healthcare services. Additionally, the governor’s free medical outreach program has benefitted thousands of Osun residents, further demonstrating his commitment to providing healthcare for all.
The state government’s comprehensive approach includes upgrading primary healthcare facilities, enrolling vulnerable populations in the state’s health insurance scheme, and launching innovative programs aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality rates.
Chairman Tejuade also extended his heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Jola Akintola, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, for his exemplary leadership and tireless efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the state. He further commended Dr. Akindele Adekunle, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health and Cordinator Renovation Committee of the Primary Healthcare Projects, for his dedicated leadership in implementing numerous healthcare projects across the state.

The Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge is an initiative of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, world Health Organisation (WHO) and the Aliko Dangote Foundation.
