Stampede: Oyo Court Rejects Bail Requests of Ooni’s Ex-Wife and School Principal

The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has rejected the bail applications of Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, and Abdullahi Fasasi, the Principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan.

Thestandardnewsreports that both individuals are facing charges related to the tragic stampede that occurred during a children’s festive party in December 2024, which led to the deaths of at least 35 children.

Justice Olawoyin, who is overseeing the case in Court 8 at Ring Road, Ibadan, postponed Naomi’s hearing until next week after a request from the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oyo State, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, SAN, who sought additional time to complete investigations.

A source from the court, speaking with SaharaReporters, disclosed that Naomi and Fasasi’s bail applications were denied due to the Attorney General’s request for more time to continue the investigation into the incident.

In the meantime, the court is expected to make a decision regarding the bail application of Oriyomi Hamzat, the proprietor of Agidigbo FM. Hamzat, alongside Naomi and Fasasi, is being investigated for their roles in the stampede at the tragic event held at the Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan.

The court proceedings resumed on Tuesday with heightened security, as the prosecution, led by Prof. Oyewo, continued to present its case.
