Omipidan and His Hypocritical Opinions on Good Governance

In life, when someone consistently fails, their advice, warnings, or promises lose credibility, as people tend to value the insights and guidance of those who have a proven track record of success. This phenomenon stems from the belief that successful individuals have navigated challenges effectively and thus, their perspectives are more trustworthy and applicable to others’ lives.
Egbon Ismail Omipidan has been vocal about his views on good governance since his boss lost the vote count in 2022, particularly in the context of Osun State’s leadership under Governor Adeleke. However, it is worth questioning the merit and integrity of these opinions, especially given his track record and close association with the previous administration. If Mr Omipidan truly possesses such profound insights on effective governance and resource management, one might ask: why did he fail to save his own principal from the pitfalls that marred their administration?
The previous administration, which Omipidan staunchly defended, left behind a legacy that many in Osun State remember with disappointment. The economic mismanagement, the neglect of crucial infrastructure, and the failure to address the state’s most pressing needs were hallmarks of an administration that struggled to deliver on its promises. Despite the opportunity to steer Osun towards prosperity, the administration fell short in areas that mattered most to the people. If Egbon ‘Pidan had the wisdom and expertise he now claims to possess, why did he not deploy these qualities to prevent the decline of governance under his principal’s watch?
It is important to state clearly that in the last 21 months, Governor Adeleke has shown a commitment to addressing the real needs of Osun State. One of which is his prompt action in revitalizing the state’s tourist sites. It is a commendable move that reflects a leader who is attuned to the potential of his state and who is willing to take concrete steps to harness that potential. Tourism, if well-developed, can be a major driver of economic growth and job creation. Governor Adeleke’s recognition of this fact, and his willingness to act on it, is a clear demonstration of his dedication to the state’s progress.
Egbon Ismail Omipidan’s recent forays into public commentary on governance are both ironic and hypocritical. His opinions would carry more weight if they were backed by a track record of successful governance during his time in power. However, the legacy of his principal’s administration speaks for itself, and it is not one of success. Governor Adeleke is working to correct the course, and his efforts should be supported, not undermined by those who failed to deliver when they had the chance. If Omipidan truly cares about Osun State, he would do well to offer constructive suggestions rather than hollow criticisms.
It is high time Egbon Ismail shifts his focus from critiquing Governor Adeleke’s administration to providing useful advice to his principal at the federal level. HM Oyetola needs it more. The state does not need more pieces from Omipidan that attempt to rewrite history or diminish the achievements of the current administration. Instead, he should channel his energy into ensuring that his principal does not repeat the mistakes of the past and that he does not bring further embarrassment to Osun State on the national stage.
