Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has boldly stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will deliver a political lesson to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2026 Osun State election and the 2027 Oyo State election.Makinde made this assertion while commissioning various projects initiated by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, in Osogbo on Wednesday. He dismissed the ambition of APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, to secure victories in Osun and Oyo states as unrealistic.
Ganduje, after the declaration of APC’s candidate, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as the winner of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, stated that the APC intended to dominate the South-West by 2027, capturing Oyo and Osun states. Makinde, however, suggested that Ganduje might have been distracted when making such a statement.According to Makinde, the people of Osun have already witnessed the positive impact of Governor Adeleke’s leadership and would show the APC “pepper” in the upcoming governorship election. He congratulated the people of Osun for their decision two years ago to support Adeleke, noting that his administration had brought significant benefits to the state.Makinde also praised Adeleke for continuing the projects inherited from his predecessors, emphasizing that his administration, both in Osun and Oyo states, prioritizes value for public funds. He stressed that one of the best ways to address Nigeria’s economic challenges is for governors to implement policies and projects that directly benefit their people, and he commended Adeleke for doing just that.
Furthermore, Makinde encouraged the electorate in Osun to continue their support for Adeleke, assuring them of his backing in the upcoming election. He emphasized that both PDP governors, he and Adeleke, are the true progressives in the South-West, committed to pro-people policies and programs.
Makinde addressed the issue of federalism in Nigeria, criticizing the current system and advocating for reforms that would lead to true federalism. He lamented that some advocates of true federalism were moving towards a more centralized, unitary style of government, but promised that he and Adeleke would remain committed to leading their people through reforms and providing good governance.
Governor Adeleke, in his remarks, expressed his gratitude to Makinde for attending the event, describing his presence as a symbol of the strong bond of brotherhood between Oyo and Osun states. He also paid tribute to former Governor Rauf Aregbesola and reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing the projects inherited from his predecessors.
